📢 National Flu Programme Guidance 2026/27: Vaccination rollout dates are structured clinically to ensure maximum protection during peak winter months. Please check your eligibility and cohort start dates below before booking.

📅 Key Vaccination Rollout Dates (2026/27)

In line with UKHSA guidance, vaccinations are delivered in two phased cohorts:

  • September 2026 Onward: Pregnant women, infants/toddlers aged 2–3 years, and school-aged children (Reception to Year 11).
  • October 2026 Onward: Adults aged 65+, individuals aged 18–64 in clinical risk groups, care home residents, and carers.

Who Is Eligible for a Free NHS Flu Vaccine?

👵 Adults Aged 65 & Over

  • All individuals born on or before 31 March 1962.
  • Receives an enhanced or adjuvanted vaccine specifically designed for older immune systems.

🏥 Adults in Clinical Risk Groups

  • Chronic respiratory disease (e.g., Asthma requiring severe treatment, COPD)
  • Chronic heart, kidney, or liver disease
  • Diabetes or immunosuppression
  • Neurological conditions or severe learning disabilities

🤰 Pregnant Women

  • Eligible at any stage of pregnancy.
  • Protects both mother and newborn baby against flu-related complications.
  • Can be co-administered with Maternal RSV/Pertussis vaccines.

  • Aged 2 & 3 years: Given as a quick, painless nasal spray at the practice.
  • School-Aged (Reception to Yr 11): Administered via school vaccination teams.
  • Risk groups (aged 6 months+): Eligible at the surgery if contraindicated for nasal spray.

Can I have my COVID-19 booster and Flu vaccine together?
Yes, where supply and eligibility allow, COVID-19 autumn boosters may be offered at the same appointment as your flu vaccine.
Why do adults without risk factors have to wait until October?
Evidence shows that flu vaccine effectiveness wanes over time. Starting adult vaccinations in October ensures peak immunity through the high-risk winter period (December to February).
Is the nasal spray vaccine egg-free?
The nasal spray vaccine contains traces of pork gelatine as a stabilizer. If this is not suitable for religious or dietary reasons, an injectable egg-free or cell-based vaccine can be requested for eligible children.
